Brucher Thieltgen & Partners: Local Expertise, International Perspective
Interview with Nicolas Thieltgen, Founding Partner of Brucher Thieltgen & Partners
Located at the heart of Luxembourg’s international financial centre, Brucher Thieltgen & Partners is an independent, multidisciplinary law firm recognised for its expertise in business law. Specialising in banking, finance and corporate law, the firm is also renowned for its experience in complex litigation and sophisticated restructuring proceedings. With a team of 30 lawyers and an international network of experts firmly established in their respective jurisdictions, the firm provides tailored solutions to its clients.
Why is Luxembourg an attractive location for businesses?
The Grand Duchy is at an interesting turning point in its history. Known as an international financial centre and a leading jurisdiction for investment funds and corporate structuring, Luxembourg has undergone significant changes in the competitive post-Covid environment, following the parliamentary elections of 8 October 2023.
The new government has made Luxembourg’s attractiveness and competitiveness a priority on its agenda, and one year later, we are beginning to see the results. The presentation of the current coalition’s first budget, for 2025, demonstrates a commitment to long-term tax stability, maintaining relatively low tax rates.
At the same time, investment spending is accelerating in areas such as digital technology, sustainable development and innovation support. Building on its historical strengths, Luxembourg is shaping its future by positioning itself in emerging sectors from technological, economic and societal perspectives.
What defines your firm’s DNA?
The firm was established in 2006 by three partners and now has five, alongside approximately 30 lawyers from a wide range of backgrounds, including Luxembourg, France, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy.
Our DNA is about building bridges between cultures and countries. For example, we assist French clients expanding their activities into Luxembourg who find themselves navigating the realities of the local market. Our role is to translate these realities into effective communication with public authorities and judicial institutions.
We take the same approach with our Luxembourg clients seeking to establish themselves elsewhere in Europe, where we rely on our network of independent law firms.
SMEs, as well as certain large corporate groups, often prefer working with an independent law firm capable of providing tailored legal services.
What services do you provide?
Our practice is divided between advisory and litigation services, with particular expertise in banking, finance and insurance law.
We provide regulatory advice in connection with transactions, pre-litigation matters and disputes. Similarly, we advise on commercial matters, including contract drafting, and bring our expertise to the management of employment and shareholder disputes.
We also assist with collective insolvency proceedings, including bankruptcies and restructurings, acting as court-appointed officers or representatives of creditors.
Our expertise covers all areas of employment, inheritance, real estate, sports and business law, as well as arbitration, with a particular focus on complex situations.
Excellence, effectiveness in handling challenging matters and complex situations, and empathy are the three pillars of our commitment.
What are your development objectives?
Our aim is to continue growing and increase our visibility over the medium term.
More specifically, we intend to expand our insurance practice, which addresses many of our clients’ needs, as well as our arbitration practice, which has become an increasingly important area in Luxembourg following the adoption of a new arbitration law in 2023.
As an independent law firm, we offer a less institutional approach than multinational firms in these two key areas of law, as in all our other practice areas, while providing more practical and focused legal services tailored to our clients’ specific needs.
